Raymond John Dollney, 81, Served in U.S. Navy
Raymond John Dollney, 81, of Lorain died Wednesday, January 2, 2008 in Community Regional Medical Center, Lorain following a brief illness.He was born September 7, 1926 in Lorain. He was a life long resident of Lorain.
He served in the Navy in the Asiatic Pacific Theater during World War II on landing craft in the battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa.
Mr. Dollney retired as a machinist in 1976 from Bendix-Westinghouse in Elyria. He worked there for 28 years.
He was a member Saint John Ukrainian Byzantine Catholic, Lorain. He was also a member of the United Auto Workers Local 971 of Elyria. He enjoyed bowling. He competed on the Rebman’s, North Coast and Slovak Home leagues.
Among the survivors are his sons Raymond R. of Lorain and Bill Jackson of Princeton, West Virginia, six grandchildren and great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years Juanita Ruth Dollney in 2006, a son Roy Dollney; his parents Roy and Mari (nee Kowalczk), a brother Julius Dollney, sisters Loretta Stankiewicz and Cecelia Stankiewicz.
Friends may call Monday, February 18, 2008 from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. in the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain. Father Steven Paliwoda, Pastor of Saint John Ukrainian Byzantine Catholic, Lorain will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain, where the Disabled American Veterans, Louis Paul Proy Chapter 20, Lorain will conduct military honors.
