Mae �Mama Mae� Kovach, 64, Known in Lorain for her Chicken Paprikash

Mae “Mama Mae” Kovach (nee Lawrence), 64, of Lorain, died Friday January 4, 2008 at EMH Regional Medical Center in Elyria after a sudden illness.

She was born August 24, 1943 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and had resided in Lorain since most of her life.

Mae worked as a cook at the Moose Lodge, AMVETS and PACC, all in Lorain and was known throughout the area for her chicken paprikash and spaghetti and meatballs.

She was a member of the American Legion #30, Moose Lodge #552, Polish-American Citizens Club, Russo-Slav Club and the Knights of St. John, all in Lorain.

Mae enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

She is survived by her son John R. Kovach, Jr. of Lorain, daughters Nena Hoenck of Campbellsville, Kentucky and Tina Carter in Louisville, Kentucky, 10 grandchildren, brother James Lawrence of South Amherst, sisters Mary Porter of Fredericktown, Pennsylvania and Virginia Mylan of Clarksville, Pennsylvania and her companion of 7 years Terry Mawson of Lorain. She was preceded in death by her husband John R. Kovach, Sr. in 1998, parents James & Emma Lawrence and her grandson Austin.

The family will receive friends Monday 3-5, 7-9 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 am. The Rev. Daniel O. Divis, pastor of St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in Lorain will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township.
