Frank J. Labis, 79, Served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War

Frank J. Labis, 79, of Lorain, died Saturday January 12, 2008 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain.

He was born June 6, 1929 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.

Frank served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked at US.. Steel in Lorain in quality control retiring in 1969.

Frank was a member of the Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain, Polish Legion of American Veterans Post #38, Disabled American Veterans Chapter #20 and a member and past trustee of the Polish American Citizens Club, all of Lorain.

He enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, watching movies, eating chocolate and was an avid Cleveland sports fan.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years Eleanor (nee Lopatkovich), son Frank J. Labis of Lorain, daughter Mrs. Michael (Janet) Krupp of Spring, Texas and son Andrew P. Labis of Aurora, Illinois, grandchildren Michael Krupp and Jennnifer Krupp and sisters Mrs. John (Angeline) Dubena of Elyria and Mrs. Agnes Sadowski of Lorain. He was preceded in death by his parents Leon and Bertha Labiszewski (nee Sobocinski), brother Stanley Labis and sisters Marcella MAttey and Josephine Majesky.

Private family services were held. Burial was in Calvary Cemetary in Lorain. A memorial mass will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of Gluvns-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain.
