Thomas J. Chovanec, 49, Worked at Republic Technologies

Photo of Thomas J. Chovanec Thomas J. Chovanec, 49, of Lorain, died Sunday January 13, 2008 in the intensive care unit at Community Regional Medical Center in Lorain after a short illness.

He was born February 21, 1958 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.

Tom was a graduate of Admiral King High School in Lorain and currently worked in the bar mill at Republic Technologies in Lorain. He was a member of the Catholic Church of St. Peter and Holy Trinity Catholic Church, both of Lorain, USWA Local #1104, Slovak Catholic Sokols, St. Ann’s Lodge and the American Slovak Club.

Tom enjoyed fishing, shooting pool, visiting the “Hot Waters” fishing and boating dock, camping and boating and was an avid Cleveland Browns fan.

He is survived by his son Thomas Chovanec of Cincinnati, daughter Emily Chovanec of Lorain, granddaughter Elizabeth Huskey of Lorain, sister Mary Lou Shawver of Lorain, brother Joseph Chovanec of Meridian, Texas, sisters Linda Lewyckyj of Lorain and Judith Chovanec of Lorain and brother John Chovanec of Lorain and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph & Virginia Chovanec (nee Staveski) and brother Charles Chovanec in 1978.

The family will receive friends Tuesday 3-5, 7-9 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9:30 am in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial Wednesday at 10:00 am at the Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3501 Oberlin Ave., Lorain. The Rev. Chuck Henkle, associate pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
