George Husty, 86, Enjoyed gardening and yard work
George Husty, Jr. 86 of Lorain died Thursday, January 17, 2008 in Community Regional Medical Center, Lorain following a lengthy illness.
He was born February 21, 1921 in Pine Bluff, West Virginia. He attended schools in West Virginia. He came to Lorain in 1940.
Mr. Husty retired in 1983 as a foreman in the #4 Blast Furnace of the Lorain Cuyahoga Works of U. S. Steel, Lorain. He worked there for 43 Years.
During World War II, he was a U. S. Army Sergeant He fought in the battles of New Guinea and Luzon. He earned the Good Conduct Metal, World War II Victory Metal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one bronze star and the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with two bronze stars.
Mr. Husty was a member of Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Lorain. He was also a member of Saint Lad’s Club, The Hungarian Young Men’s Club and a life member of the Amvets post 47 all of Lorain.
He enjoyed gardening and yard work, spending time with his family and taking care of his neighbors. He bowled on the Senior Fellowship and U. S. Steel management leagues. He was a avid Cleveland Indians Fan.
Among the survivors are his wife of 62 years Elizabeth (nee Gearde) Husty, son George Husty, III of Lorain , daughters Annette Sexstella and Mary Renner both of Lorain, brothers Joseph Husty of Rivesville, West Virginia and William Husty of Barrackville, West Virginia, four grand children, four great grand children, Nieces and Nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents George and Lena (nee Kovach) Husty, brothers Steven Husty and Thomas Husty and a sister Irene Messoris.
Friends may call Monday, January 21, 2008 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain. The funeral service will be Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Reverend James Schmitz, pastor of Saint Ladislaus Catholic Church, Lorain will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain, where the Disabled American Veterans, Louis Paul Proy Chapter 20, Lorain will conduct military honors.
