Edward M. Drozdowski, 83, U.S. Navy Veteran

He was born Sept. 15, 1925 in Amherst and had resided in Sheffield Village most of his life. He had lived in Amherst the past few years.
Edward attended Amherst schools and was the youngest of 13 children. He served with the US Navy during WWII as a gunner on Liberty Ships.
He worked at U.S. Steel in Lorain as a millwright in the blast furnace retiring in 1986. He also ran Ed’s Sohio Service Station in Sheffield Village.
Edward was a member of St. John Roman Catholic Church in Lorain. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bingo, bowling, golf, playing cards and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his daughter Karen Flaherty (Joe Coley) of Vermilion, son Edward Skip Drozdowski (Rose) of Lorain, grandchildren Sara Drozdowski, Lisa Drozdowski and David Flaherty (Kelly), great grandchildren Kara, Shannon and Daniel, brother James Drozdowski of Lorain, sister Cecelia Sokol of Lorain, brother-in-law David Pirnack (Nan) of Littleton, Colorado and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Helen A. Drozdowski (nee Pirnack) in 2002, parents Joseph and Antonina Drozdowski (nee Leszozyk), sisters Martha Skura, Frances Syrowski and Viola Stachelski, brothers Michael, Adam and Joseph Drozdowski and four children in infancy.
The family will receive friends Tuesday 3 - 5 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m. in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. John Roman Catholic Church, 2143 Homewood Drive, Lorain. The Rev. Thomas Smith, pastor, will officiate.
Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where the Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter #20 of Lorain will conduct military honors.
