Edward J. Kucharik, Sr., 81, Thew Shovel & Amherst Schools Retiree
Edward J. Kucharik, Sr, 81, of Sheffield Township, died Thursday January 24, 2008 at Autumn Aegis Nursing Home in Lorain after a long illness.He was born June 15, 1926 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Sheffield Township resident.
He was a 1945 graduate of Clearview High School and then served with the US Navy during WWII aboard the USS Crosley in Okinawa, Japan.
Edward worked as a welder at Thew Shovel for 35 years and then in maintenance for the Amherst School district for 14 years retiring in 1990.
He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elyria Township and Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lorain. As a youth he served as an altar boy at Holy Trinity.
Edward enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and other yard work and was a caretaker to his wife.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years Alice (nee Biro), son Dr. Edward J. Kucharik, Jr of Seminole, FL, 3 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, sister Virginia Gonos of Lorain and brother Raymond Kucharik of Wakeman. He was preceded in death by his daughter Darlene Marie Raymond in 1977 and parents John & Anna Kucharik (nee Girgle).
