Elizabeth ''Betty'' Galanic, 72, Administrator & Director of Nursing At Local Care Facilities

She was born in Lorain on October 9, 1935 and had been a life-long resident of the city. A graduate of Clearview High School, she went on to attend the M.B. Johnson School of Nursing in Elyria and later graduated from St. Joseph’s College in Windham, Maine with a degree in Nursing Home Administration.

Betty was employed as the Director of Nursing at the former Saint Joseph Hospital. She later served as the Director of Nursing for Shields/Autumn Aegis Nursing Home in Lorain as well as in the dual role of Administrator and Director of Nursing at both Weber’s Nursing Home in Wellington and Ohio Extended Care Center in Lorain. She retired in 1997 while on the staff of the Renaissance Care Center in North Olmsted.

A parishioner of the Catholic Church of Saint Peter, she was an avid league bowler who was a member and former officer of the Lorain Women’s Bowling Association. In her free time she enjoyed casino trips and playing lottery games.

Survivors include her husband of forty-nine years Peter P. Galanic, daughter Mrs. Michael (Sandra) Zawalski of North Royalton, granddaughter Rebecca, grandson Mark, sister Virginia Mills of Asheville, North Carolina, and brother Richard Rottari of Elyria.

She was preceded in death by her son Peter P. Galanic, II in 2000, by her parents Dan and Magdalene Rottari, by brothers George, Whitney, and Donald, and by sister Margaret Orozco.

Visitation will be Sunday from 4-8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain. Funeral services will begin Monday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. in the Church of St. Peter, 3501 Oberlin Ave. Father Charles Henkle, Associate Pastor will preside. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park.
