Carmen M. Roldan, 74, Loved to spend time with family
Carmen M. Roldan (nee Cortes) 74 of Lorain died peacefully Thursday, February 07, 2008 surrounded buy her family, in the home of her son William in Lorain, following a lengthy illness.
She was born August 19, 1933 in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. She came to Lorain in 1963.
C Compassionate, A Always there, R Ready to serve, M Matriarch of the family, E Exceptional, N Nurturing. These are but a few of the wonderful qualities that Carmen Roldan possessed.
Mother, grandmother, always ready to serve her children and those who needed her. Although she was raised in an era where education could not be obtained as easily, she continued year after year to study, read, and inspire her children to better themselves.
She always said she wanted to be a librarian, thereby spending countless hours at the Lorain Public Library reading, reading, reading. She had a stamina for learning and doing things and did not believe in being idle. She would do things like cleaning, crocheting, and sewing.
She loved to spend time with her family, playing games and reminiscing about her life. To us, she was a woman greatly to be praised, a woman with such dedication to her family and friends. I remember something she used to say: "The day I can no longer do anything for myself or others is the day I will go to be with God." And that is how it was. She will be greatly missed but also remembered forever.
Among the survivors are her sons Angel (Gladys) Roldan of Saint Petersburg, FL, Alberto (Norma) Roldan of Louisville, KY, Ramon L. (Mari) Roldan of Aguadilla, William (Margie) Roldan and David Roldan both of Lorain, Manuel Roldan of Oberlin and Edwin (Jenny) Roldan of Elyria; daughters Gladys E. (Felix) Molina of Arecibo, Puerto Rico and Ana L. (David) Hoyte of McAllen, TX; brother Miguel (Augustina) Cortes of Aguadilla; sisters Aida Cardona and Miriam Cortes both of Lorain; 23 grand children and 12 great grand children.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years Angel Roldan in 2002, her parents Jose R. and Carmen (nee Villanueva) Cortes and a brother Ramon Cortes.
