Mary Ellen Wallace, 83, Received a Fulbright Scholarship and studied in Columbia

Photo of Mary Ellen Wallace Mary Ellen Wallace, 83, (nee Weaver) of Lorain passed away on Thursday, February 7, 2008 at the Anchor Lodge Nursing Home in Lorain following a long illness.

Mrs. Wallace was born on June 9, 1924 in Zanesville to the late Reuben & Lillie (nee Kelly) Weaver. She has lived in Lorain since 1957. She was an active member at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church,

She earned a bachelor's degree in 1946 from Muskingum College. Her studies continued at Western Reserve University earning her a Master's in Education degree in 1956. In 1963 she received a Fulbright Scholarship and studied in Columbia, South America and in Mexico.

Mrs. Wallace was a Spanish teacher for the Lorain City Schools. She taught at both Lorain High School and Admiral King High School from 1957-1977. At Admiral King High School she was the chairman of the language department.

She was preceded in death by her husband William Wallace on July 6, 1989.

Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at 11:00 AM in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 603 Washington Street, Lorain with co-pastors Rev. Jimmy Madsen and Rev. Dr. L. H. Chamberlain, officiating.

Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, Amherst Township. Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home for Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain, Ohio has been entrusted to handle the services.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 603 Washington Street, Lorain, Ohio 44052.
