Jean K. Kish, 84, Active in Church Affairs
Jean L. Kish (nee Carney), 84, of Lorain, died Sunday Feb. 10, 2008 at Auburn Ravine Nursing Home in Auburn, CA following a brief illness.She was born Dec. 6, 1923 in Lorain, Ohio. Jean had been a lifelong resident of the city until her late husband John A. Kish passed away Oct. 10, 2000. She moved to CA in 2003 with her youngest son Richard Kish and family.
Jean was a full time mom and homemaker while raising 7 children, 5 boys and 2 girls. Later in life, Jean worked for SBS Transit as a bus driver in the Lorain School System for 15 years, retiring in 1981. She had also been previously employed by the Lorain Journal.
A member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, she was active in church affairs along with her late husband John.
She is survived by her sons Dennish Kish of Las Vegas, NV, Daniel Kish of Lorain & Richard Kish of Los Angeles, CA; daughters Karen Kish of Columbus, OH and Diane Simms of Brownsville, PA; 13 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and identical twin sister Betty Welter of Pensacola, FL. She was preceded in death by her husband John A., in 2000, her sons David A. in 1980 and John P. in 2001, sisters Beatrice Romer, Doris Masylik and Mildred Teal; brothers Gerald Carney & Dave Carney and her parents Daniel and Mable (nee Grondin) Carey.
The family will receive friends Friday 4-8 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway, Lorain, where funeral services will be held Saturday at 9:30 am followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1305 East Erie Avenue, Lorain. The Rev. Joseph West, pastor, will officiate. Cremation will follow and the ashes will be interred in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain at a later date.
