Dorothy R. Turton, 92, Operated Turton's Food Market

Dorothy R. Turton, (nee Jaworski), age 92, of Lorain, died February 15, 2008 at Anchor Lodge Nursing Home.

She was born in Lorain on June 22, 1915 and went on to graduate from Lorain High School.

A parishioner of Nativity B.V.M. Catholic Church, she was formerly active with the P.T.U. at Nativity Parish School.

Dorothy was most recently employed as a clerk for Tony’s Meats in Lorain retiring in 1990. She had previously served as the proprietor of Turton’s Food Market which was located at the corner of West 14th Street and Long Avenue and had also formerly worked for Steve Polansky’s Market in Amherst.

Regarded as a devout homemaker. Dorothy enjoyed sewing, collecting angels, and reading, with a specific interest in romance novels.

Survivors include sons John A. “Jack” Turton of Elyria, and Ronald J. Turton of Lorain, eleven grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren, three great, great grandchildren, sister Rita Swartz of Lorain, and brothers Dan and John Jaworski residing in Amherst, and Robert and Richard Jaworski of Lorain.

She was preceded in death by her first husband John A. Turton, Sr. in 1959, by her second husband Walter Podyma in 1996, by a daughter Audrey M. Kayle, by parents John C. and Sophie (nee Bash) Jaworski, by sister Veronica Unger, and by brothers Herman, Ralph, Jerry, and Joseph.

Visitation will be Sunday from 4-7 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. A rosary will be recited by the officers and members of the Nativity BVM Altar & Rosary Society at 5:00. Funeral services will begin Monday at 9:30 in the funeral chapel and will be followed by a funeral mass in Nativity B.V.M. Catholic Church, 1454 Lexington Avenue at 10:00 with the Reverend Robert Glepko officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
