Dale M. Zivac, 55, Loved Animals and Sports
Dale M. Zivic, age 55, of Lorain, died unexpectedly Saturday March 8, 2008 at Cleveland Metro Health Medical Center. He was born in Lorain on January 2, 1953 and remained a life-long resident of the city.Mr. Zivic attended Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parochial School; he moved on to Admiral King High School where he was active as a tenor in the school choir, and was a member of the American Field Service Program. He was also the recipient of the school's meritorious service award. He graduated in 1971. In 1976 he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Archeology from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio
Since 1986 he had been employed as a hearing officer for the Ohio Department of Human Services in Cleveland; he had previously worked as a caseworker for the Lorain County Department of Human Services. Dale was also the co-owner of Louis Cohn Men’s Wear located in the west concourse of the Midway Mall shopping complex in Elyria.
Affectionately known as the animal whisperer because of his love for animals, he was an avid sports fan and a season ticket holder of the Cleveland Indians. Additional interests included photography, cooking, and spending time with his family and friends. Mr. Zivic was also an ardent supporter of Life Banc and an advocate of organ and tissue donation.
Survivors include his brother John D. Zivic and his wife, Poppi, residing in Okinawa, Japan, sister Renee M. Whitney of Lorain, along with nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Pearl (nee Leska) Zivic.
Visitation will be Friday from 3-7 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in Nativity B.V.M. Catholic Church, 1454 Lexington Avenue, Lorain. The Reverend Robert Glepko will preside. Private family committal services will take place later in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Animal Protective League of Lorain County, 7202 Murray Ridge Road, Elyria, OH 44035 or to any charity of the donor's choice.
