Steve G. Madaras, 66, Enjoyed Golf, Football and Baseball

Jerry was born in Grafton, Ohio on March 9, 1942 and had been a long-time resident of Lorain prior to moving to Avon Lake.

He was a graduate of Lorain High School as a member of the Class of 1961-A and went on to serve in the United States Army following his graduation. He fulfilled duty assignments as a Specialist 4 attached to Battery B of the 8th Missile Battalion.

Mr. Madaras was employed as a Quality Control Inspector at Ford Motor Company’s Ohio Truck Plant in Avon Lake. He retired in 2000 following thirty-three years of service with the automaker. He was a past member of United Autoworkers Local 2000. He had previously been employed by General Motors Corporation in Parma.

A parishioner of Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Avon Lake, Jerry was known as an avid golfer who also enjoyed football and baseball.

He is survived by his wife of forty-two years Mary Lou (nee Carocci), sister Mary Ann Shildwatcher of Lorain, brother Rick Galbraith of Cleveland, his aunt Louise Lawson of Elyria, along with a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather Robert Galbraith, his mother Elsie (nee Jakelsky), and sister Karen Spencer.

Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be Tuesday beginning at 9:15 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by the celebration of his funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Joseph Catholic Church, 32929 Lake Road with the Reverend Timothy J. O'Connor, officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
