Amos J. McClelland Jr., 85, Army Veteran and Enjoyed Yard Work

Amos J. McClelland, Jr. 85 of Sheffield Township died Saturday March 22, 2008 at Community Regional Medical Center in Lorain.

He was born June 8, 1922 in Uniontown, Pennsylvania and had resided in Sheffield Township since 1949.

Amos served with the US Army during WWII as a Technician 5th Grade in Company C 36th Tank Battalion. He saw action in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was awarded the Purple Heart, European-African-Middle-Eastern Campaign Medal w/4 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal and the American Campaign Medal.

Amos worked at the B&O Railroad Roundhouse in Lorain for 8 years and then worked as a truck driver for Lorain House Lumber for 25 years retiring in 1985.

He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elyria Township and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed planting flowers and yard work.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years Hortenze “Toots” McClelland (nee Tocchi), daughters Barbara (Karl) Glick of Lorain and Dianne (Tom) Christopher of Alpharetta, Georgia, grandchildren Bryan (Jodi) Glick of Lorain, Jennifer (Gus) Koehn of Huron, Marc (Jenie) Christopher of Georgia and Valerie Christopher of Georgia, great grandson Brody Glick of Lorain and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Amos J. McClelland, Sr and Jessie McClelland (nee Harvey), brothers Edgar and Robert McClelland and sisters Freda, Goldie, Lillian and Catherine.

The family will receive friends Monday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 41295 N. Ridge Road, Elyria Township. The Rev. James Ols, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where the VFW Post #451 and American Legion Post #30 of Lorain will conduct military honors.
