Paul F. Verban, 93, Enjoyed Sports and Art

Paul F. Verban, 93, of Lorain, died peacefully on Saturday April 5, 2008 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain.

He was born August 9, 1914 in Caro, Michigan and had resided in Lorain since childhood.

Paul served with the US Army during World War II in the 82nd Airborne 326th Glider Infantry in the European Theater. He was awarded the EAME Theater Ribbon w/1 Bronze Star, WWII Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and American Theater Ribbon.

Paul worked at US Steel in Lorain as a turn supervisor in quality control of the pipe mills for 42 years retiring in 1976.

He was a member of St. John Roman Catholic Church in Lorain and a member and past president of Lorain Senior Fellowship. He was a very active sportsmen playing sandlot baseball in Lorain and playing tennis, football, volleyball, golf and bowling.

After retirement he attended art classes at Lorain County Community College where he learned to paint oils and acrylics and make chalk pastels.

He is survived by his daughter Pamela Falasco of Amherst, grandchildren Ernie Falasco of Amherst and Carla Falasco of St. Louis, Missouri and great grandchildren Cassandra Falasco and Justice Falasco, both of North Ridgeville. He was preceded in death by his wife Martha M. Verban (nee Homolya) in 2003, parents Frank and Rose Verban (nee Dobrovic), sisters Mildred Babic, Mary Renney, Helen Betzel, Rose McAndrew and Katherine Boulis and brother George Verban.

The family will receive friends Monday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held Tuesday in the funeral chapel at 10:00 a.m. followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Roman Catholic Church, 2143 Homewood Drive, Lorain. The Rev. Thomas Smith, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where the Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter #20 of Lorain will conduct military honors.
