John J. Hartman, 88, Life Member of Veterans of Foreign Wars

Photo of John J. Hartman John J. Hartman, 88, of Lorain, died Friday April 18, 2008 at Oak Hills Nursing Center in Lorain after a lengthy illness.

He was born August 27, 1919 in Grafton and had resided in the Lorain area most of his life.

John served with the US Army during World War II in Company B 401st Gilder Infantry.

He worked at American Shipbuilding in Lorain as a crane operator. Later he worked for Consolidated Management in Lorain/Elyria managing and maintaining apartment buildings. He also worked for S&S Appliance in Lorain.

John was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years Donna (nee Wressell), sons John P. Hartman of Lorain and Roger Hartman of Cleveland, daughter Joanne Bloodsworth of Wintersville, son William Hartman of Lorain, daughter Barbara Goossens of San Jacinto, California, stepsons Vernon Thompson of Lorain and John Thompson of Amherst, stepdaughters Doris Thompson of Sheffield Township and Carol Newman of Avon, 19 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife Wilma “Sister” Hartman (nee Glass), granddaughter Lynn Hartman, parents John and Ruth Hartman (nee Maloney), brother Lawrence Hartman and sisters Dorothy Skodney, Isabel Wyckoff, Elzier McCann and Vivian Hall-Hunker.

The family will receive friends Wednesday 4-8 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain where funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Matt Jones, pastor of Broadway Assembly in Lorain, will officiate. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery in Avon where the Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter #20 of Lorain will conduct military honors.
