Lois Marie Simo, 88, Charter Member of Saint Vincent de Paul Church

Mrs. Simo was born in Lorain on February 4, 1920 and had been a life-long resident of Lorain County. She was a graduate of Lorain High School as a member of the Class of 1938-B.

During World War II Lois was employed in the lab at U.S. Steel Corporation’s Lorain-Cuyahoga Works. She later worked as a cook at Clearview High School for seventeen years. She had most recently been employed as an assembler for the Lorain Products Corporation retiring in 1983.

Mrs. Simo was a charter member of Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elyria Township where she was also a member of the Altar & Rosary Society and the Our Lady of Fatima Circle.

She was formerly active as a member of the Durling Elementary School PTA, and was a member of the Clearview High School Band Boosters. She had previously served as a volunteer at the former Saint Joseph Hospital as well as a volunteer for the Northminster Presbyterian Church Food Bank.

She was a member of the Salvation Army Keenagers who enjoyed bowling and knitting. Additional interests included ceramics, travelling, and her grandchildren.

She is survived by daughters Davina R. Simo of Newton Falls, Ohio, and Julanne Kolesar of Amherst, and by her son Robert J. Simo and his wife Linda who reside in Huron. She is also survived by grandchildren Robert (Kelly) Simo, Jodi (Marty) Larsen, Kristen Kolesar, and Kelley Kolesar, four great grandchildren and by her brother David J. "Jim" Borthwick and his wife Marilyn.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband John J. Simo, Jr. in 1965, by an infant son in 1953, by granddaughter Sherry Ann Simo in 1972, by her son-in-law Jeffrey J. Kolesar in 1986, by her father David Young Borthwick in 1973, and by her mother Julia Borthwick (nee Fogel) in 1976.

Visitation will be Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Friday beginning at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by the celebration of her funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. in Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 41295 North Ridge Road, Elyria Township. The Reverend James R. Ols, Pastor of the parish will preside. Private family committal services will be conducted later in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
