Rozalija �Rose� Holowackyj, 83, Volunteer at the C.Y. M. Chortycia

Photo of Rozalija “Rose”  Holowackyj Rozalija “Rose” Holowackyj (nee: Petrycyn), 83 of Lorain, passed away Saturday, May 10, 2008 in her home following a brief illness.

She was born February 1, 1925 in Uroz, Ukraine. In 1949, she emigrated from Germany to Amsterdam, New York; she moved to Buffalo, New York in 1953 and then made Lorain her home in 1957.

Mrs. Holowackyj was a very family oriented homemaker and mother. She was a member of Saint John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic of Lorain and American Ukrainian Youth Organization (C.Y.M.). She was also a member of the Soyuz Ukrainok, Lorain. She enjoyed gardening and camping. She also enjoyed volunteering in her church cooking and making pyrogies, also volunteering at the C.Y. M. Chortycia in Huntington Township for 16 years.

She will be missed by her husband of 63 years, Dmytro; daughters Maria Monticue of New London and Oksana “Sandy” (Alex) Chunuk of Lorain; four grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents Ivan and Fasia Petrycyn; daughter Olga Holowackyj in 1968; son George Holowackyj in 2007; two sisters; and one brother who lived in Ukraine.

Her family will receive friends Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain, Ohio. Panachida service will be Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.

Funeral services will be Monday, July 23, 2007, with closing prayers at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. followed by Divine Liturgy at 11:00 a.m. Saint John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, Lorain, East 31st Street and Charleston Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Father Volodymyr Hryciuk of Solon will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain Ohio.
