Joseph W. Downie, 44, Regional Sales Manager for Covenant Transport
Joseph W. Downie, 44, of Strongsville and formerly of Lorain, died suddenly on Sunday, May 18, 2008 at Metro Health Medical Center in Cleveland.
He was born February 23, 1964 in Fort Bragg, North Carolina and had resided in Strongsville for the past 4 years. He grew up in Lorain and had also lived in Carmel, Indiana.
Joe was a 1982 graduate of Lorain Catholic High School where he lettered in football. He attended John Carroll University where he played football and graduated in 1986.
Joe worked for Covenant Transport as a regional sales manager in the states of Ohio, Kentucky and Western Pennsylvania. He coached his sons in CYO football and his daughters in softball.
He is survived by his children Fred Downie, Maggie Downie, Theresa Downie and Jack Downie, all of Carmel, Indiana, parents Fred & Sharron Downie (nee Callahan) of Lorain, brother Derrick Downie of Hudson and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Friday 5-8 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. A funeral mass will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church, 310 8th St., Lorain. The Rev. Jamie Mazanec, associate pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst, will be the celebrant.
