Walter J. Kyle, 70, One of the Good Guys
Walter J. Kyle, Jr., age 70, of Lorain, died peacefully Thursday July 10th in the presence of his family at his residence following an extended illness.
Mr. Kyle was born in Lorain on January 18, 1938 and had been a life-long resident of the city.
He was a graduate of Lorain High School as a member of the class of 1956; while attending Lorain High, he was a member of the Southerner’s Social Club and a varsity letterman on the school’s football team.
He was employed by the Ford Motor Company’s Lorain Assembly Plant and later as an inspector in the Ohio Truck Plant in Avon Lake. He retired in 1994 following a career that spanned thirty-four years with the auto maker.
He had previously participated in the bricklayer’s apprenticeship program at U.S. Steel Corporation’s Lorain-Cuyahoga Works.
Affectionately considered as one of the good guys, he attended the Catholic Church of Saint Peter in Lorain; in his free time he enjoyed duck hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife of thirty-eight years Barbara (nee Kish), daughters Kelly Ploszaj (nee Novak) and her husband Jan residing in South Amherst, Jennifer Kyle-Hampton and her husband Bradley of Lorain, son Walter J. Skip Kyle, III and his wife Joanne of Carlisle Township, two grandchildren, two great grandchildren, step-father Vincent A. Minotti of Lorain, and sister Betty Boland of Oberlin.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Marilyn (nee Kish) in 1969, by his father Walter J. Kyle, Sr., and by his mother Doris Kyle-Minotti (nee Yeager).
Visitation will be Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Tuesday beginning with closing prayers offered in the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. and will be followed by the celebration of his funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in the Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3501 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain. The Reverend Charles Henkle, O.F.M. Conv., associate pastor of Saint Peter Parish will preside. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery Lorain.
