Chester S. "Chet" Borowicz, 84, US Steel Retiree
Chester S. "Chet" Borowicz, 84, of Lorain, died Friday, July 11, 2008 at Anchor Lodge Nursing Home in Lorain after a one-year illness.
He was born December 8, 1923 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.
Chet graduated from St. Stanislaus Elementary School in Lorain where he played CYO Sports. He attended Clearview High School and then served with the US Navy during World War II as a Seaman First Class. He received the WWII Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon w/1 star and the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon w/8 stars.
Chet worked at US Steel in Lorain as a crane operator for 45years before retiring. He also worked at Falencki’s Hardware in Lorain and was known for his ability to fix lawn mowers. He also picked fruit for Spiegelberg Orchards and served as a volunteer firefighter with the Sheffield Township Fire Department.
Chet enjoyed fishing, gardening and walking.
He is survived by his daughter Carol Borowicz Montagnese of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, granddaughters Mrs. Kevin (Jessica) Mudrick of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Rachel Lane of Cutler, grandson Patrick Lane of Cutler, great grandchildren Olivia and Ryan Mudrick of Philadelphia and sisters Josephine Grugel of Euclid, Clara Wenzel of Lorain and Gertrude Hanko of Lorain. He was preceded in death by his wife Ethel A. Borowicz (nee Toth), daughter Patricia Diane Lane on March 8, 2008, parents Jan and Pheleica Borowicz (nee Nalezc), brothers Felix, Sam, Leo and Al Borowicz and sisters Mary Syrowski, Pauline Pajor and Helen Borowicz.
The family will receive friends Sunday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 2702 Elyria Ave., Lorain. The Rev. David A. Novak, parish administrator, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where the Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter #20 of Lorain will conduct military honors.
