Joseph S. "Bud" Kolbe, 84, World War II Army Veteran
Joseph S. "Bud" Kolbe, 84, of Sheffield Township, died Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at his home of Parkinson’s disease.He was born June 22, 1924 in Lorain and graduated from Lorain High School, Class A, in 1943. He served in World War II in the Army as a Technical 4 Sergeant and was stationed in the Philippines, Okinawa, and Korea.
He was employed by US Steel for 40 years. He worked as a crane operator, in management and was foreman in the Coke Plant. He held a notary license and worked for Pierre R. Smith as a Stock Broker.
Joe was a devoted husband and father. He loved spending time with all of his family. He had many interests including fishing, league bowling, following the Cleveland Indians and the Cleveland Browns and would never miss and opportunity to play his favorite sport, golf. Joe was a carpenter and built 2 homes for his family through the years.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Florence (nee Turk). He leaves to cherish his memory a son, Robert J. of Wheaton, Illinois, a daughter, Elaine Stevenson of Lorain, three grand daughters, two grandsons, five great-grandchildren, sisters, Evelyn Bodor of Wintersville, OH. Marilyn Bregman of Avon and many relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary, and his father, Joseph B.
Friends may call Friday, July 18, 2008 from 5 -8 p.m. at Wyers Funeral Chapel, 2900 North Ridge Road, Sheffield Twp., where service will be held Saturday, July 19, 2008 at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Lorain. Military Honors will be conducted by Disabled American Veterans Chapter 20 of Lorain.
