Andrew A. Dallos, 83, Former Sheffield Township Fire Chief
Andrew A. Dallos, 83, of Sheffield Township, died Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain.
He was born March 15, 1925 in Sheffield Township and had been a lifelong Sheffield Township resident.
Andy graduated from Clearview High School and then served with the US Army during World War II as a staff sergeant in the 302nd Ordnance Medium Maintenance Company. He was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, WWII Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the American Theater Ribbon.
Andy worked as a salesman for Eldotread Company in Elyria for 49 years. He also worked as a firefighter for the Sheffield Township Fire Department for 42 years and served as its fire chief for 16 years.
He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elyria Township and American Legion Post #12 in Elyria.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years Margaret Dallos (nee Holomuzki), daughters Arlene Dallos of Avon and Andrea Ritter and Audrey Polansky, both of Amherst, grandchildren Kyle & Caitlin Ritter and brothers William Dallos of Lorain, Paul Dallos of Elyria and Charles Dallos of Avon. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Theresa Dallos (nee Nemes), brothers John, Steve and Frank Dallos and sister Theresa Bedo and Helen Dallos.
The family will receive friends Thursday 2-4, 6-8 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain where the parish rosary will be recited Thursday afternoon. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 41295 N. Ridge Rd., Elyria. The Rev. James Ols, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where the VFW Post #1079 of Elyria will conduct military honors.
