Juanita H. Pong, 85, Clearview Baord Of Education Retiree
Juanita H. Pong, age 85, of Lorain and formerly of Sheffield Township, died Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at the New Life Hospice Center of Saint Joseph following a two week illness.
She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on December 28, 1922 and had been a resident of Lorain County since 1953. She had previously resided in Hinckley Township, Medina County.
Juanita was employed as a bus driver for the Clearview Board of Education for many years; she had previously been employed as a retail and wholesale route delivery driver for the Central Bakery of Lorain and had also formerly worked for the Western Automatic Screw Company and the American Ship Building Company.
Mrs. Pong was an active member of the Girl Scouts of America serving as a troop leader and camp counselor for more than thirty-five years. She was a volunteer with the Salvation Army during the 1960’s and 1970’s and had served on the Lorain International Pageant Committee. She was also a volunteer at Amherst Hospital.
A member of Christian Temple Disciples of Christ in Lorain, her hobbies included sewing, ceramics, and travel. She also actively supported and participated in Clearview High School activities throughout her lifetime.
Survivors include her daughter Nancy Woods (Claude) of Amherst, son Roland M. (Sharon) Thomas of Vermilion, and step-daughter Sandra (Sal) Tramontana of Lorain, grandchildren Constance Thomas, Keith Thomas, Dawn Woods, Jodi Meyer, Lisa Tramontana, Alan Tramontana, Matthew Tramontana, and great grandchildren Alan Meyer, Evan Meyer, Aidan Meyer, Kaitlyn Meyer, Kyan Woods, Brayden Kitchen, and Delaney Kitchen.
She was preceded in death by her husband Wayfun Jimmy Pong in 2007, by her son Larry Thomas in 1945, by her parents Fred and Rosie (nee Cumpston), by her sister Annie Ross, and by her brother Carl Sword.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 31, 2008 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral chapel with the Reverend Dr. Bradley Donahue, Pastor of Christian Temple Disciples of Christ presiding. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
