Margaret H. Bruce , 79, Financial Counselor for Lorain Community Hospital
Margaret H. Bruce (nee Toth), age 79, of Lorain, died Saturday, August 2, 2008 at University Hospitals of Cleveland following a brief illness.
Mrs. Bruce was born in Lorain on July 22, 1929 and had been a life-long resident of the city. She was a graduate of Lorain High School as a member of the Class of 1947-B.
Following her graduation from high school she attended business college; she subsequently joined the United States Steel Corporation where she was employed in the bookkeeping department at the company’s Lorain-Cuyahoga Works.
She was later employed in the accounting departments of J.C. Penney Company, Higbee Brothers, and the Ted Jacobs stores. Margaret was most recently employed as a Patient Financial Counselor for the former Lorain Community Hospital from which she retired in 1998.
She was an active parishioner of the Catholic Church of Saint Peter in Lorain and was a member of the Saint Francis of Assisi Mission Group as well as a facilitator with the Renew Program there. She was a member of the Lorain County Community College Civic Chorale and had also served as a volunteer with the New Life Hospice Service for more than ten years.
In her free time she enjoyed cooking, hosting gatherings at her home, and gardening. She also liked participating in league golf and bowling throughout the area. Additional interests included attending horse races with her late husband and enjoying day junkets to local points of interest.
Survivors include her daughter Mary Beth (Craig) Wasserman of Solon, granddaughter Sarah Wasserman, and brothers William and Elmer (Pat) Toth both of Lorain.
She was preceded in death by her husband William in 1995, and by her parents Michael and Mary Toth.
Visitation will be Tuesday, August 5, 2008 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Wednesday August 6th beginning at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by the celebration of her funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. in the Catholic Church of Saint Peter, 3501 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain. The Reverend Charles Henkle, O.F.M. Conv., Associate Pastor of St. Peter Parish will preside. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
