Robert E. Kopp, 41, Pipe Fitter, State Wrestler at Southview HS

Photo of Robert E. Kopp Robert E. Kopp, 41, of Amherst and formerly of Lorain, died Monday August 18, 2008 from injuries sustained in a fall while at work in Canton.

He was born May 29, 1967 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.

Robert was a 1985 graduate of Southview High School in Lorain where he was on the wrestling team and took 3rd place in the state wrestling championships.

He worked as a pipe fitter for Lucas Plumbing in Lorain for 10 years and had recently taken a job with a plumbing and heating company in Canton. He was a member of Plumbers and Steamfitters Local #42 of Norwalk.

Robert coached girl’s softball for 7 years and girl’s soccer in Lorain and girl’s basketball in Amherst. He enjoyed spending time with his family, all sports and sports trivia and playing poker online.

He is survived by his wife of 14 years Tracey, daughters Sierra, Shelby and Stevie, mother Betty Kopp (nee Spencer), brothers Greg and Billy and sisters Tina, Tresa Doan, Judy Velez and Cathy Janosik, all of Lorain, 10 nieces, 15 nephews, 3 great nieces, and 3 great nephews. He was preceded in death by his father William Kopp in 2005 and niece Angie Doan in 2001.

The family will receive friends Thursday 6-9 pm and Friday 2-4, 7-9 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Prayer services will be held Saturday at 10:30 am in the funeral chapel followed by the funeral liturgy at the Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3601 Oberlin Ave., Lorain. The Rev. Kenneth Wolnowski, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
