Arthur Amador, 61, Avid Cleveland Sports Fan

Photo of Arthur Amador Arthur Amador, 61 formerly of Lorain died Wednesday, September 3, 2008 in Dallas V. A. Medical Center, Dallas, Texas following a brief illness.

He was born November 12, 1947 in Lorain. He was a life long resident of Lorain until moving to Grand Prairie, Texas in 2007.

Art retired from US Steel/KOBE after 32 dedicated years. He retired from the billet caster. After his retirement from the Steel Mill, he found his true dream job working with the Cleveland Indians for 9 fun years as a host/greeter. Art also worked for Community Health Partners as a transporter for 3 years.

He attended Lorain Admiral King High School before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. where he volunteered and proudly served in Vietnam, earning the Vietnam Campaign Medal with devices, Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Vietnam Service Metal with one Bronze Star Combat Action Ribbon and Sharp Shooter Badge.

He attended Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain, and was a member of the United Steel Workers Local 1104 Lorain. Art was a champion baseball and slow pitch softball player where he was a member of the state champion Class F Buckeye Baseball Team with Sacred Heart Church. He also was a member of the Russo-Slav Club City Champion and Mexican Mutual Club County Champion in slow pitch softball. Art also was a member of the Chicanos social club of Lorain.

Art loved all Cleveland sports, especially the Cleveland Indians and was an avid talker. He always had time to stop and chat, and if you were lucky enough he would give you a sample of his world famous burritos. He later became known as "The Burrito Man” amongst his friends, family, and coworkers. Art adored his family, especially his grandchildren, which meant the world to him.

He leaves behind the love of his life, his wife of 35 years, Nancy “Fiesta” (nee Lopez) Amador of Prairie, Texas. Sons Jose (Denise) Ortiz of Frisco, TX, Robert Ortiz of Lorain, Ohio, Daniel Ortiz of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Richard (Gabrielle) Amador of Lorain, Ohio, Nicholas (Dina ) Amador of Lorain, Ohio and 1 daughter Lisa Ortiz of Grand Prairie, TX;

brothers Frank (Ann) Amador, Gilbert (Edie) Amador, Fernando (Rita) Amador, Raymond “Debbie” Lorain; sisters Margaret (Victor) Gracia, Barbara (Richard) Pina, Gloria (Art) Amador Nieto, Juanita (Donald) Nickerson all of Lorain and Santos (Doug) Zgonc Amherst;

grandchildren: Amber “Lu-Lu” Ortiz, Daniel “Bubba” Ortiz, Angelea “Bujjie” Amador, Maleigha “Mimi” Amador, Nina Amador, Yasmin “Happy” Amador, and Kellen “Big Gallo” Amador all of Lorain. William Robert and, Jessica Ortiz, Cerissa Schilens of Elyria. Naria Torres of Amherst, Ryan Ortiz of Grand Prairie, TX, Joseph “Jo-Jo” Ortiz, Brittany “ Mama” Ortiz of Frisco TX and Morgan Dee Mayes of Colorado Springs, CO. and great-grandson Rylend Johnson of Lorain; he also had 28 nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Francisco and Juanita Amador, his brother Richard and granddaughter, Nina Amador.

His family will receive friends Mon. Sept. 8 from 4 to 8 PM in the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain (phone 440.277.8164). Funeral services will be Tues. Sept. 9, with closing prayers in the funeral home at 8:45 AM, then Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 Am In Sacred Heart Chapel, 1439 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Fr. James Schmitz, Pastor of St. Ladislaus Church, Lorain officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain, where the Disabled American Veterans, Louis Paul Proy Chapter 20, Lorain will conduct military honors.

His family suggests memorial contributions to the Arthur Amador Memorial Fund at any Lorain National Bank.
