Dorothy L. Kowblitz, 85, Enjoyed Traveling and Reading

Dorothy L. Koeblitz (nee Derrig), 85, of Oberlin, died Tuesday September 23, 2008 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain after a short illness.

She was born August 27, 1923 in Cleveland and had resided in Oberlin since 1977. She had also lived in Cleveland Heights and Lyndhurst.

Dorothy was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elyria Township and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oberlin.

Her family and faith were central in her life. She was proud of her Irish heritage and had researched her family genealogy while traveling to Ireland. She was a citizen of both Ireland and the United States.

Dorothy enjoyed current events and life-long learning. She loved to travel and read. She volunteered for Job Corps and Birthright.

She is survived by her children Doreen (Dan) Kelleher of Cleveland Heights, Lorraine (Chris) Gramling of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Maureen (Joe) D’Agostino of Oberlin and Bill Koeblitz of Twinsburg, grandchildren Rachel, Ben, Tom, Jeremy, Jessica, Joshua, Matthew, Ramona, Paul, Dan, Eddie, Michael, John, Clare, Erin, Katie, Billy and Annie, 7 great grandchildren, sisters Pat Bellis and Laurie Lydic, both of Willowick and brother Tom Derrig of Berea. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years Bill Koeblitz in 2006, son-in-law Harry Vincent in 2005, parents George and Florence Derrig (nee Broadbent) and brother George Derrig.

The family will receive friends Friday 4-9 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Prayer services will be held in the funeral home Saturday at 9:00 a.m. followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 41295 N. Ridge Road, Elyria Township. The Rev. James Ols, pastor and the Rev. John Slatcoff, deacon, will officiate. Burial will follow in Westwood Cemetery in Oberlin.

Memorial contributions can be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
