Rocco Proia, 86, Parishoner of St. Peter's Church, Enjoyed Gardening
Rocco Proia, age 86, of Lorain, died Saturday October 4th, 2008 at Community Regional Medical Center following a recent illness. Mr. Proia was born in Fontana Lira, Italy and had been a resident of Lorain since 1954.
A parishioner of the Catholic Church of Saint Peter, in Lorain, Rocco retired from Lorain Products in 1982. He had previously been employed by the Thew Division of Koehring Company.
In his free time, he enjoyed gardening and caring for his fig tree.
Survivors include daughters Rita Costello (William) of Lorain, and Marcella A. “Marcy” Proia of Charlottesville, Virginia, and a grandson Rocco Joseph Costello.
Mr. Proia was preceded in death by his wife Rosa (nee Ricco) in 1992, by his parents Angelo and Sophia (nee Mangine) Proia, by his brother Angelo in 1944, and by sisters Maria Perino in 1967 and Domenica Lai in 1969.
Visitation will be Tuesday October 7th from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be on Wednesday October 8th at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral chapel with Reverend Charles Henkle, O.F.M. Conv., Associate Pastor of the Church of Saint Peter presiding. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
