Alice M. Temkiewicz, 87, Active in V.F.W. Post #1079

Photo of Alice M. Temkiewicz Alice M. Temkiewicz (nee McCarty), age 87, of Sheffield Village, died Sunday October 12th. Mrs. Temkiewicz was born in Elyria on April 16, 1921 and had been a resident of Sheffield Village for the past sixty-five years.

A graduate of Elyria High School, she was employed in the Meat Department of the Pic-N-Pay supermarket at the corner of Detroit Avenue and Bunts Road in Lakewood for forty-four years. Alice was a long-time member of united Food and Commercial Workers Local #880.

A parishioner of Saint Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Sheffield Village, she was also a member of the Altar and Rosary Society there.

She was extremely active, along with her late husband, in activities of V.F.W. Post #1079 in Elyria. She was a member and past Sergeant-At-Arms of the Ladies Auxiliary and also participated as bearer with the flag corps.

She was also a member of the Lorain Moose Lodge.

Survivors include her daughter Janice Temkiewicz residing in Marco Island, Florida, sons Terrance and Joseph A. Temkiewicz, Jr. (Lucinda) both of Sheffield Village, and grandchildren Robert, Garrett, Taylor, and Kristina.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband Joseph A. "Blackie" Temkiewicz, Sr. in 2004, by her parents Charles and Catheryn (nee Cunningham) McCarty, by her sister Florence Milkey, and by brothers Thomas, Theodore, and Joseph.

Visitation will be Tuesday October 14th from 6-8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel - 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Wednesday beginning with closing prayers offered in the funeral chapel at 9:15 a.m. A funeral mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, 1878 North Abbe Road, Sheffield Village with the Reverend Robert J. Franco, Pastor of the parish presiding. Burial will follow in Saint Teresa Cemetery.
