Helen E. Kosco, 88, Enjoyed Family, Friends, Bowling and Dancing
Helen E. Kosco, (nee Brezina), age 88, of Lorain, died Monday October 20, 2008 in the emergency room of Community Regional Medical Center, Lorain. She was born in Lorain on October 10, 1920; Helen attended Holy Trinity Parish School and went on to graduate from Lorain High School.
Mrs. Kosco was a parishioner of both Saint Nicholas Byzantine Rite Catholic Church as well as Holy Trinity Catholic Church. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Altar and Rosary Society as well as Saint Ann’s Lodge Branch # 114 of the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Union.
Helen was an active member of the American Slovak Club and its Ladies Auxiliary. Since 1974 she had served as the head cook in the downstairs social hall there and had also assisted for many years with the coordination of the Friday fish fries in the upstairs dining area at the club.
In her free time she enjoyed sports, and N.C.A.A. College Football. Additional interests included bowling, dancing, and spending time with her family and friends especially at holidays.
She is survived by sons Dale and his wife Sue, Robert Bob, Jim and his wife Linda, and Timothy and his wife Vickie all residing in Lorain, daughters Mary Ellen Kovacs and her husband Andrew of Lorain, and Chris Kosco residing in Vermilion, along with seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Andrew Cuppy Kosco in 1984, by her son Jerome in 1980, by her parents Michael and Mary (nee Gajdos) Brezina, by brothers Jack, Joseph, and Michael, and by sisters Anne Brezina, Gazella Kaya, Margaret Edwards, and Mary Kiska.
Visitation will be Wednesday October 22nd from 3 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain where Parastas services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. in the funeral chapel. Funeral services will be Thursday beginning with Panachida at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by Divine Liturgy at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Nicholas Byzantine Rite Catholic Church 2711 West 40th Street, Lorain. The Reverend Nicholas Rachford, Pastor of the Parish will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
