Carolyn M. Rader, 84, Avid Gardener

Carolyn M. Rader, 84, (nee West) of Lorain passed away on Monday evening, October 27, 2008 at the Autumn Aegis Retirement Center in Lorain following a long illness.

Mrs. Rader was born in Akron on July 15, 1924, the daughter of the late William B and Cora Leslie (Milhone) West. She has lived in Lorain for the past 50 years.

She earned a BA from Akron University and was a member of Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Lorain.

Her working career began as a 2nd grade and an art teacher for the Lorain City Schools. She then became the first woman foreman at Ford Motor Co, where she worked for 10 years.

Mrs. Rader was an avid gardener, an exceptional artist and enjoyed spending time with her family.

She is survived by her daughters Susan Hawthorne of Denver, CO, Cynthia Rader of Willard, Polly Martin of Defuniak Springs, FL, sons Randall Rader of Lorain, Nicholas Rader of San Leon, TX, Christopher Rader of Fountaintown, IN, 16 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Joseph Rader in 1994, a son Skylar Rader in 1999, sister Beverly Kershner, brothers William West and Reginald West.

Friends are invited to call Saturday, November 1, 2008 from 10:00 AM until funeral time at 11:00 AM in the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, 647 Reid Ave., Lorain. The Rev. Stephen Sedgwick, rector, will officiate.

Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township, OH.
