Mary Novak, 88, Worked in Emerald Valley Clubhouse

Mary Novak (nee Lute), 88, of Cleveland, died Monday October 27, 2008 at the Eliza Jennings Home in Cleveland. She fought stubbornly to stay alive the past three weeks and gave up gracefully Monday night around 7:30 pm.

She was born July 9, 1920 in Lorain and had resided with either her son Ron or daughter Karen in Cleveland for the past 10 years.

Mary was a graduate of Elyria High School. She worked at Emerald Valley Golf Course in Lorain in the clubhouse for several years and for the Lorain County and Cuyahoga County Board of Elections.

She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lorain. She enjoyed spending time with her family, her pet dogs, cooking, music and sports. She was an avid Cleveland Indians fan.

She is survived by her children Patricia Leboda of Lorain, Karen Novak of Cleveland, Ron Novak and wife Karen of North Royalton and Marianne Smith and husband Dan of Richmond Heights, grandsons Mark Osko and Bill Huskinson, great grandson Shane Osko and sister Anne Owen of Aurora.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jerome Novak in 1977, parents John & Anna Lute (nee Marvo) and sister Helen Minda.

The family will receive friends Wednesday 6-8 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9:30 am in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 2428 Elyria Ave., Lorain. The Rev. David A. Novak, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
