Bernard J. Dowdell, 87, Enjoyed Grandchildren's Sport's Events

Born January 11, 1921 in Elyria, he was a lifelong resident.
Mr. Dowdell was a tool and die maker at General Motors for 31 years, retiring in 1980. He also owned and operated Dowdell Trucking Company. He was a World War 2 Navy Veteran.
He belonged to St. Vincent de Paul Church, and the Knights of Columbus.
He enjoyed spending time watching his grandchildren’s sporting events.
He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Dorothy Novak-Dowdell (nee Gudan), a son Timothy of North Ridgeville, and grandchildren Erin, Daniel, Christopher, Bryan, and Andrew Dowdell. Step-children Dr. Gary Novak, Linda Novak, and Maureen DeLong. Brothers Dick and Ted Dowdell of Elyria, and John Dowdell of Wellington.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 39 years Mildred A. Dowdell (nee Hulick) in 1994, a daughter Sheila in 1956, Step-daughter Janice Adams. Sisters, Sr. M. Rita Therese (Patricia), Lillian Walker, Agnes Krystowski, Rose Schwinn, and infant sister Eileen Dowdell.
Friends may call Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. with Rosary at 4 p.m. in Reichlin-Cooley Funeral Home, 2920 Broadway Lorain. Funeral services will be Monday with prayers at 9:15 a.m. in the funeral home, followed with Liturgy of the Word at 10 a.m. in St. Vincent de Paul Church. Fr. James R. Ols will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Elyria.
