Kathryn D. ''Kitty'' Conrady, 78, Devoted Mother And Educator
Kathryn D. Kitty Conrady, (nee Joscelyn), age 78, of Lorain, died Thursday December 11th, 2008 at her residence following an extended illness.
Kitty was born in Portland, Oregon on January 10th, 1930 and had been a resident of Lorain for most of her life.
She began her working career serving as a practical nurse at the Lorain County Tuberculosis Sanitarium. As her children reached adolescence she enrolled at Kent State University where she received her Masters Degree Summa Cum Laude in Education. She later began working towards her doctorate degree. Mrs. Conrady served as a teacher for one year at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic School in Lorain. She subsequently moved on to fulfill teaching assignments with the Elyria City Board of Education where she served at the Crestwood and Ely Elementary Schools. Kitty retired in 1992 following a career that spanned twenty-seven years with the school district.
She was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lorain. She has previously been a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church where she also served as a Sunday school teacher.
Regarded by many as a talented artist, she enjoyed painting with oils and acrylics and also worked with charcoals. Additional interests included sewing, travel, and reading with a special fondness for romance novels.
Survivors include her son Eugene Conrady residing in Louisville, Kentucky, daughters Joyce Martincak and her husband Thomas of Elyria, and Lora Conrady of Lorain, four grandchildren, six great grandchildren, sister Earline Allen of Titusville, Florida, and brothers Earl Joscelyn, Jr. of Joshua Tree, California and Claude Joscelyn of De Funiak Springs, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her husband Edward J. Conrady in 2002, by a grandson Kenneth Martincak, and by her parents Earl Joscelyn, Sr. and Sueva (nee Kerr) Joscelyn.
Memorial services are tentatively scheduled for later in the month at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
The family encourages memorial contributions to either Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Hospice of the Western Reserve, or The Cleveland Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
