Helen Clarke Kolesar, 90, Enjoyed Spending Time with Grandchildren

Photo of Helen Clarke Kolesar Helen Clarke Kolesar (nee Flaherty), 90, of Lorain, died Saturday December 13, 2008 while under the care of hospice at the Kingston of Vermilion Nursing Home.

She was born August 21, 1918 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.

Helen graduated from Lorain High School. She worked at Kaminski Oldsmobile in Lorain, Thew Shovel in Lorain and for the Oberlin Board of Education.

In her early years she enjoyed bowling, playing cards and dancing. In later years she was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Vermilion.

She is survived by her daughters Sharon Mae Dixon of Sagamore Hills and Carole J. Kolesar of Lorain, grandchildren Brian P. Dixon (Carrie) of Kentucky, Karen B. Brzeski (Greg) of Northfield, Marylynn Dixon (Robert Lasecki) of Euclid, Kelly M. Sand (Richard) of Vermilion, Robin "Jo" Wawrzynski of McKinny, TX and Nicole R. Lawrence (Robert) of Nashville, TN, great grandchildren Brett A. Sand and Leanne E. Sand, both of Vermilion, Jordan, Alexis & Jackson Wawrzynski, all of McKinny, TX, Kayla B. Brzeski of Northfield, Xavier Lasecki of Euclid and Tyler J. Lawrence of Nashville, TN and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents former Lorain mayor P.J. Flaherty and Olive Mae Flaherty (nee Hansman) and brothers James Flaherty and John Hulf.

There will be no visitation. Cremation will take place. A memorial mass will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church in Vermilion at a later date. Her ashes will be buried at Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township.

Arrangements are under the direction of Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain.
