Florence Binder, 86, Enjoyed Cooking and Baking
Florence Binder (nee Gavatorta), 86, of Lorain, died Monday December 15, 2008 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain after a short illness.
She was born July 11, 1922 in Burgettstown, PA and had resided in the Lorain area for the past 61 years.
Florence worked as a cashier and clerk at Southside Pharmacy in Lorain for about 15 years. She also worked with Senior Citizens programs such as Meals-on-Wheels.
Florence was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lorain and the church rosary guild. She was a life member of the United Polish Club, Polish American Citizens Club and American Slovak Club and was a member of the Slovak Catholic Sokols Wr#111.
She enjoyed casino bus trips, gardening, cooking, baking and spending time with her friends.
She is survived by her children Florence Gilles of Lorain, Mary Mezlak (Gary) of Lorain, Joseph Brosky (Joann) of Becker, MS, John Binder of Lorain and Kathy Binder of Lorain, brother James Gavatorta of Avon and sister Pauline Meneely of Burgettstown, PA, 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands Leonard Brosky and John Binder, parents James and Raymonde Gavatorta (nee Cornuet) and sister Frances Clair.
The family will receive friends Wednesday 3-8 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave. Lorain. Funeral services will be held Thurday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 2702 Elyria, Ave. Lorain. The Rev. David A. Novak, parish administrator, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
