Rev. Freddie Garcia, 63, Pastor of Jesus the Way Christian Fellowship Church

Photo of Rev. Freddie Garcia Rev. Freddie Garcia, Sr. 63, of Lorain went home to be with the Lord, Monday Dec. 15, 2008, in his home, following a brief illness.

He was born March 22, 1945 in Las Piedras, Puerto Rico and moved to Lorain as a small child at the age of six.

In his younger years, he enjoyed boxing. He loved to sing, preach and enjoyed playing the guitar, but most important of all he loved to win souls for the Lord. His motto was “If God could save me, He can save anyone”.

He was the Pastor and founder of Jesus the Way Christian Fellowship Church for 12 years. He also was the founder of “Drug-Free through Christ” in 1989 and “Jesus the Way Prison Ministries” in 1994.

Survivors include his wife of 19 years Carmen Garcia (nee Figueroa) of Lorain; mother, Juanita Garcia (nee Negron) of Lorain; sons, Rev. Freddie Garcia, Jr. (Little One) of Tampa, FL and Anthony James Garcia, Shawn Michael Bellamy, and Ray Anthony Garcia of Lorain,; daughters Lorraine A. Garcia and Selena Garcia both of Lorain; stepsons Alex Aponte of Buffalo, NY, Jose Aponte, Angel Aponte and Javier Aponte, all of Lorain; 20 grandchildren; and 2 Great-Grandchildren; brothers Rev. Israel Garcia of Tampa, Fla., and Frank Garcia, of Lorain; sisters Jenny Rivera and Lillian Garcia (Matos), both of Lorain. He was preceded in death by his brother, Benjamin Garcia, in 1995; his father Francisco Garcia, in 1997; and brother Bienvenido Garcia in 2001.

Friends may call on Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., in Iglesia Manantial Pentecosatal, 3501 Broadway, Lorain, where the funeral service will be Saturday at 10 a.m. Rev. Israel Garcia will officiate the Memorial Service and Rev. Juan A. Rivera will officiate the Funeral Service. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
