Louis A. Bozich, 85, Decorated WWII Veteran

Photo of Louis A. Bozich Louis A. Bozich, 85, of Lorain, died Saturday Dec. 27, 2008 at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky after a long illness.

He was born May 22, 1923 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.

Lou graduated from Lorain High School with the class of 1941 B. He served with the US Army Air Corps during World War II as a sergeant. He was a crew chief of B-17G with the 97th Heavy Bomb Group that saw action in England, Africa and Italy with the 8th, 12th and 15th Air Corps. He was awarded the Good Conduct Ribbon, American Defense Service Medal, EAME Theater Ribbon with 12 Bronze Stars, ETO Medal with 2 Silver Stars and the Presidential Distinguished Unit Citation with Oakleaf Clusters.

Lou worked as a counter salesman for a few auto parts stores and service stations.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lorain where he served as an usher and was a member of the church Holy Name Society.

Lou had a love for planes and had a private pilot’s license. He flew radio controlled model airplanes and was a member of the Lorain County RC Club for over 30 years. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter #20 in Lorain. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his sons Dennis Bozich (Nancy) of Lorain and James Bozich of North Bend, Washington, grandchildren Jocelyn Goins, Kirsten Troyer, Neal Bozich and Chrissa Carmichael and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn Bozich (nee Marshall), parents Louis and Theresa Bozic (nee Kobal), sister Theresa Stursa and daughter-in-law Denise Bozich.

The family will receive friends Friday 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain where the Holy Trinity Holy Name Society will recite the rosary Friday at 4 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 2428 Elyria Ave., Lorain. The Rev. David A. Novak, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township where the Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter #20 of Lorain will conduct military honors.
