David Richard Davies, 51, Operation Open Heart Trustee

Photo of David Richard Davies David Richard Davies, 51, of Elyria, died Saturday, Jan. 03, 2009 in New Life Hospice Center of Saint Joseph, Lorain, following a battle with cancer.

He was born March 25, 1957, in Cleveland. He was resident of Elyria since 1963, graduating from Elyria Catholic High School in 1975.

Dave was employed by the City of Elyria Wastewater Treatment Plant as a Collections Systems Supervisor, retiring in 2006. He was one of the original members of the Elyria Hazardous Materials Team and also an Emergency Medical Technician. After retiring he enjoyed working at Tom’s Country Place, Avon and driving for Beal Street Limousine, Elyria.

He was a member of St. Jude Church, usher, past president of the Holy Name Society, and Holy Name Man of the Year in 1994. He coordinated building a house for Habitat for Humanity, receiving a Community Service Award in 2000.

Dave was a Trustee for Operation Open Heart, a member and past Chairman of the Board for Lorain County Children’s Services, Past Grand Knight of Elyria Knights of Columbus 774, Past Faithful Navigator of the Fourth Degree and former District Deputy, and was Cleveland Diocese Knight of the Year for 1984-85 and 1999-2000. He was a member of the United Polish Club, Moose Lodge 778 both of Elyria, and the Avon VFW. He was a 1997 graduate of Leadership Lorain County, and was a member of the Activities Committee and Lawn Bowling Board at Golf Lakes Estates in Bradenton, FL.

He enjoyed golf and lawn bowling and spending the winter months in Florida with his wife and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 23 years Linda (nee Menear) of Elyria, daughter Erica (Stacy) Martin of Elyria, step-father James Novak of Elyria and brother Dale Davies of Elyria.

He was preceded in death by his father Richard C. Davies and his mother Dolores E. Novak.

Dave’s family will receive friends Wednesday, Jan. 7, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain, Ohio, (440) 277-8164.

Friends may also call Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Jude Church, 590 Poplar St., Elyria. with Reverend Father Frank P. Kosem officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Elyria.
