Richard A. Pufnock Sr., 70, Retired Sheffield Lake Police Officer

Photo of Richard A. Pufnock Sr. Richard A. Pufnock, Sr., 70, of Lorain, died Saturday Jan. 10, 2009 at his home.

He was born Nov. 11, 1938 in McKeesport, Pennsylvania and had resided in Lorain for the past 60 years.

Richard served with the US Marine Corps as a Lance Corporal in the early 1960’s.

He worked as a police officer for the city of Sheffield Lake and part time for Sheffield Village. Prior to that he worked at the Lorain Ford Assembly Plant.

Richard was awarded a Silver Star from the Sheffield Village Police Department for bravery in rescuing two boys from drowning.

He was a life member of the NRA and the Elyria Elks. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Richard…may you be held closely in the loving arms of God.

He is survived by his wife Jean (nee Short), children Richard, Jr (Sue) of Lorain, Daniel (Elaine) of Geneva, New York, James (Deborah) of Port Clinton, Donald of Lorain, Jeffrey (Dawn) of LaGrange, Ronda Black of Lorain and Anna Martin (Chris) of Lorain, grandchildren Shawn, Danielle, Michelle, Jon, Christopher, JoAnna, Sara, Erin, Hannah, Daniel, Nikki, Michael, Tyla and Rachel, 4 great grandchildren, brothers Dave of Arizona, Allan of Texas and Wayne of New York and sister Mary Lou of Maryland.

He was preceded in death by his son David and parents Andrew and Ethel.

The family will receive friends Tuesday 2-4 p.m., 6-8 p.m. at the Church of God, 2280 Abbe Rd, Sheffield Village, where funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Mark Leonhardt, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township where the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard will conduct military honors.
