Carol Simonovich Carroll, 53, Active Volunteer

Photo of Carol  Simonovich Carroll Carol Simonovich Carroll, 53, of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania and formerly of Lorain, died Wednesday Jan. 21, 2009 at her home surrounded by family after a remarkably courageous battle with cancer.

She was born Sept. 22, 1955 in Lorain and had resided in Camp Hill since 1994.

Carol graduated from Lorain High School in 1973. While living in Nashville Tenn., Carol toured with the musical duo the Judds, as concessions manager, while her husband Lee played keyboards. She attended Vanderbilt's School of Registered Nursing and graduated from University of Kentucky Nursing School with honors.

Carol's life in Camp Hill, Pa. consisted of tireless years of volunteer work that included executive positions as well as behind the scenes effort, a direct result of her devotion to her family and the life of her son, Will.

She immediately began as an active volunteer with the Junior Civic Club. Soon after she became Den Mother for her son’s Cub Scout pack, and continued her volunteer efforts with his Webelo, and Boy Scout Troop #51. Carol's devotion as Band Booster for her son’s marching band, continued through her illness.

She was also instrumental in bringing art education to the district, as demonstrated by her volunteer efforts in the art education program, Art Goes to School, that included a district wide mosaic wall project in which Carol was responsible for artist procurement and implementation.

In addition to the above, Carol was former President of the local Home and School Association. She will be greatly missed by the city of Camp Hill for her endless commitment to her friends and community.

Carol worked in a teaching partnership as a Teacher's Aide in Camp Hill High School's Learning Support Program, where her contribution to the academic and emotional needs of her students were beyond reproach.

She is survived by her husband of 20 years Lee Carroll of Camp Hill, son Will G. Carroll of Camp Hill, mother Mary Ellen Simonovich (nee Flaherty) of Lorain, sisters Mary Jo Farr (David) of Lakewood and Janet Simonovich (John Nelson) of North Ridgeville, brother Michael Simonovich of Lorain and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father William J. Simonovich in 2008 and brothers Donald Simonovich in 1985 and B.J. Simonovich in 2005.

The family will receive friends Tuesday 4-8 p.m. the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain where funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Daniel O. Divis, pastor of St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in Lorain, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday Jan. 31, 2009 in Camp Hill.
