John D. Suster, 61, Certified Scuba Diver
John D. Suster, Jr, 61, of Amherst Township, died Wednesday Feb. 4, 2009 at his home after a lengthy illness.He was born May 31, 1947 in Lorain and had been a lifelong area resident.
John graduated from Elyria High School and attended Lorain County Community College. He served with the US Army during the Vietnam War as a military policeman in the United States.
John worked in the bar mill at US Steel and RTI for 33 years retiring in 1999. He enjoyed golf, boating, fishing, and was a certified scuba diver and enjoyed traveling to Florida to dive.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years Barbara Suster, daughters Jade Suster and Jean Strunk, grandchildren Matthew and Olivia, father John D. Suster, Sr. of Elyria and brother Gary Suster (Linda) of Amherst.
He was preceded in death by his mother Mildred Suster (nee Pajer) in 2001.
The family will receive friends Sunday 2 p.m. - 4 p.m., 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain where funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Kevin Saylor, pastor of Zion Lutheran Church in Lorain, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township.
