Mary F. Baltes, 87, Salvation Army Volunteer
Mary F. Baltes (nee Filipchak), 87 of Vermilion, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2009 at Community Health Partners West after a short illness.She was born Nov. 17, 1921 in Donora, PA. She has been a Vermilion resident for the past 61 years.
She worked as a machine operator for New Departure in Sandusky for 30 years, retiring in 1983.
She graduated from Donora High School, Donora, PA. She was a member of the United Auto Workers and the Vermilion Golden Agers. She had packed food for the food bank and volunteered for the Salvation Army. She enjoyed sewing and knitting.
She is survived by her sisters, Anne Congregane of Vermilion; Sophie "Sue" VanFossen of Vermilion and Julia Bianchi of California, PA; several nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Christine Marie Seals in 1951 and her parents, John and Katherine (nee Kocoloski) Filipchak. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion on Monday, Feb. 16, 2009 at 11 a.m. Father Frank Speier will officiate. Inurnment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
