Ronald B. Konowal, 62, Enjoyed League Golf and Bowling

Photo of Ronald B. Konowal Ronald B. Konowal, age 62, of Lorain, died Saturday Feb. 14, 2009 at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph following an extended illness.

Ron was born in Lorain on Oct. 31, 1946; he graduated from Clearview High School as a member of the Class of 1964. While at Clearview, he was a varsity letterman on both the Clipper basketball and track teams.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy where he fulfilled duty assignments as a boiler technician aboard the USS Francis Marion in Southeast Asia. He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal.

Ron was a member of Amvets Post # 47 and Mullen-Murray Post # 451 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars both of Lorain.

Mr. Konowal was employed as the chief Building Inspector for the City of Amherst; he retired in September of 2008 following a career that spanned fifteen year with the municipality. He had previously been employed by Konowal Builders and had also taught general carpentry classes at Lorain County Joint Vocational School.

He was an active member and past Exalted Ruler (E.R.) for the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. Lodge # 1301; he was well known for his efforts in coordinating fish fries and the lodge’s annual Super Bowl party. He enjoyed league golf, league bowling, and fishing.

Additional interests included dancing as well as following the Cleveland Browns.

He is survived by his wife Sandra J. “Sandy” (Nee Vanche), by son Jeffrey of Lorain, by daughters Heather Forbes (husband Dan) and Amanda Cuevas (husband David) both of Lorain, by his step-son Troy Kish of Lorain, and step-daughter Danielle Elliott (husband Ison) of Louisville, Kentucky, six grandchildren, one great grandson, and by brothers Ray and Robert (wife Donna), both of Lorain, and Richard of Vermilion.

He was preceded in death by his parents Bernard and Irene (nee Siegrist) Konowal both in 2005.

Friends may call Tuesday Feb. 17th from 10 a.m. until time of funeral services at 12 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. The Reverend James Peter will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park where joint military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post # 30 and VFW Post # 451 both of Lorain.
