Donald Lee Jimes, 56, Enjoyed Fishing & Flying

Photo of Donald Lee Jimes Donald Lee Jimes, 56 of Vermilion, died Sunday, February 15, 2009 at his home after a lengthy illness.

He was born September 26, 1952 in Memphis, TN and has been a Vermilion resident since 1960.

Donald was a veteran of the US Army serving in Vietnam where he received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and 2 overseas bars.

He was the first Vermilion Vietnam Veteran to be awarded his High School Diploma with the graduating class of 2008.

In 2003 Donald began a four year term in Iraq as a contractor adding armor to military vehicles. He had also worked as a truck driver for TNT, Huron for 11 years.

He was a member of AMVETS Post # 22,VFW Post # 7576, and American Legion Post # 397, and the New London Eagles. He was involved with the Vermilion Veterans Council and enjoyed fishing, flying, camping and visiting with friends and family.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Christine Jimes (nee Fagan); mother, Roberta (nee Russell) Snow, brother, Robbin Snow of San Diego, CA; sister and brother in law, Carolyn and David Cambarare of Vermilion; step sons, Gregory D. Long, Matthew Ian Long of Vermilion and Shawn Puder of Sandusky; step daughters Beth Pranckunas of Lorain and Shannon Basford of Vermilion; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Jimes.

The Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct military services on Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 2 pm at AMVETS post # 22, 1517 State Rt 60, Vermilion. A Celebration of his Life will follow the military service.
