June B. Gajdos, 84, Active in Church

She was born Aug. 23, 1924 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.
June worked as a clerk at Whalen Drug in Lorain for over 25 years retiring in 1986.
She was a member of the Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain where she was active with the church festival, served as a Eucharistic Minister in church and at nursing homes, was a member of the Holy Name Society and made corsages for the kindergarten graduates at St. Peter School. She enjoyed arts and crafts.
June was known for making friends everywhere she went. She had a youthful spirit and is remembered for still diving off diving boards into her sixties. She had a sparkling personality and sweet sense of humor, referring to herself as a "recycled teenager."
She is survived by her husband of 41 years Julius J. Gajdos, daughter Laura Deegan of Vermilion, stepson Craig Gajdos (Cindy) of Denton, Texas, grandchildren Erin Deegan and Sean Deegan, stepgrandchildren Michele Gajdos, Kevin Gajdos, Laura Canada and Craig Sidorowicz, 5 great grandchildren and sister Ruby Berki of Lorain. She was preceded in death by her brothers Harold Baird and Arnold Baird and sisters Ruth Sullinger, Thelma Fisher, Jeanette Longwell, Vera Bryner and Lillian Repko.
The family will receive friends Thursday 2 p.m. - 5 p.m., 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain where the St. Peter Holy Name Society will pray the rosary Thursday at 3 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3501 Oberlin Ave., Lorain. The Rev. Kenneth Wolnowski, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
