Robert V. DiMarzio, 86, Enjoyed Reading and Politics
Robert V. “Bubba” DiMarzio, age 86, of Lorain, died Tuesday Feb. 17, 2009 in the emergency room of EMH Regional Medical Center following a sudden illness.
He was born in Lilly, Pennsylvania on Dec. 29, 1922 and had been a resident of Lorain since 1955.
A graduate of Robert Morris Business School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Mr. DiMarzio was a veteran of the United States Army where he fulfilled duty assignments as a Corporal attached to the 244th Army Air Force Base Unit. He was the recipient of the European-African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, the American Theater Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.
He was employed as a Foreman with the Cleveland Annex of the United States Postal Service retiring in 1981 following a career that spanned thirty-one years.
Bubba’s hobbies included politics, reading with a special focus on historical and spiritual works, and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-one years Mary Ellen (nee Mancen), daughters Cynthia DiMarzio of North Ridgeville, Rebecca Male (husband David) of Lorain, Monica Hunt (husband Rick) of Wellington, Marcia Szep (husband Timothy) of Lorain, Jessica T. DiMarzio of Lorain, and Mary Jo Strickland (husband Charles) of Olmsted Falls, along fourteen grandchildren, six great grandchildren. And by his sister Fredi Ann Rutter (husband William) of Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
He was preceded in death by his parents James and Sylvia (nee George) DiMarzio, and by a sister Lee Emma Mantia.
Visitation will be Friday from 4 p.m. -8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel with the Reverend Robert Daugherty presiding. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park where military honors will be conducted by the Department of the Army assisted by the officers and members of Louis Paul Proy Chapter # 20 of the Disabled American Veterans.
