Lela V. Macknauer, 97, Loved Music and Poetry

Photo of Lela V. Macknauer Lela V. Macknauer, 97 (nee Street) of Lorain died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009 at Autumn Aegis Retirement Center in Lorain following a long illness.

Mrs. Macknauer was born in Belmont County, OH on Dec. 26, 1911, the daughter of the late James O and Sadie M (nee Persons) Street.

She was a graduate of Lorain High School, Class of 1930-A. She was a member of the former Delaware Avenue United Methodist Church, the Wesleyan Circle, Wesleyan Service Guild including in 1962 served as district secretary, recording secretary of the Administrative Board of Delaware Avenue United Methodist Church, and the Pastor Parish Committee of the Delaware Avenue Church.

Mrs. Macknauer was also a member Monday Morning Service Club and AARP. She loved all types of music, poetry, and nature.

She worked as an assembler at Lorain Products in Lorain: retiring after more than 20 years service. She also had worked for the former Steel Stamping Co.

Mrs. Macknauer is survived by a daughter Penny S (Douglas) Schneider of Albany, GA, grandsons Kevin D. (Martha) Schneider of Raleigh, NC, Brian G. (Hadley) Schneider of Albany, GA, great granddaughters, Mia Schneider, Lily Schneider, Avery Schneider, Emma Schneider, great grandson Jake Schneider, step- daughter Sharon Drozek of Smellville GA and Jeanine Wilson of Seattle WA.

She was preceded in death by her husband Fred Macknauer in 1962 and three sisters and one brother.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009 at 11 a.m. in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain, OH, with Mr. Charles Boales, officiating.

Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park Cemetery Amherst Township, OH. Following the burial the family will convene at the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 600 W. 6th Street, Lorain for a light luncheon.
